How To Relieve Neck Pain

How to Relieve Neck Pain

Welcome to our premiere Millar Chiropractic Clinics, located in Madison and Huntsville, Alabama. We provide individualized chiropractic care to each of our patients. Our skilled and knowledgeable chiropractors are here to relieve and heal your neck pain. At Millar Chiropractic Clinics we treat from A to Z but specialize in 6 areas of excellence: 1) Neck Pain with or without disc involvement;  2) Low Back Pain with or without disc involvement; 3) Headaches and Migraines; 4) Sciatica 5) Joint Pain from Hips, Knees, Ankles, Feet or Shoulders, Elbows, Wrist, Hands and Fingers.

Finding the Underlying Cause

All good neck pain relief programs start with the Doctor doing a thorough history and examination. You can't do this from across the room. This is a contact sport. This requires palpation (touching) observation, and provocation. This also requires the Doctor to do Orthopedic test to see if he can duplicate the problem or put the body in a position that he can monitor the sensory outcome of the test. It also requires the Doctor perform neurological test to determine if any nerve damage is present. This is particularly true in disc problems where the Doctor is looking for Neurological Deficits (problems). No examination would be complete without the Doctor discussing functional changes caused by the neck pain. At Millar Chiropractic Clinics not only do we do all the above, but we also give you standardized test to quantify your neck problem.

Non-Invasive and Non-Addictive Treatment

Many of us worry when we are prescribed medications. They are effective but come with significant drawbacks. At Millar Chiropractic Clinics, we understand this apprehensiveness and are proud to offer a natural and non-invasive method of neck pain treatment. Chiropractic care treats neck pain at its source. After identifying the cause of your neck pain, we will create a chiropractic care plan to address it.

In treating Neck Pain we progress each patient through the Neck Pain Phases of Treatment: First comes "Relief Phase" where we get the patient out of pain or substantially out of pain. Next come "Corrective Phase" where we correct the problem to the limits of your body. I'm sure you agree that if you broke your arm and you went to an orthopedist you would want him to get you out of pain and correct your problem. We do the same with Neck Pain. Next comes Custom Rehabilitation. Here we start you slow with stretching and motion exercises and build on that foundation to strengthen the neck muscles. Finally we work on "whole body motion" Are you sleeping on your tummy or on your side with your arm up under your neck? Have you lost your cervical curve? Is your head carry forward or do you have a dowger's hump in the top of the spine in the back? With "Whole Body Motion" phase we look at the motion of the neck or lack there of and correct these underlying problems so your neck pain will be completely resolved to the limits of your body's healing.

Gentle Chiropractic Care

Chiropractor comes from the Greek words ‘cheir’ (hand) and ‘praxis’ (action). A chiropractor uses their hands to treat muscle, joint, and nerve pain by adjusting the spine and joints. The treatment doesn’t involve medicines or surgery. Chiropractic manipulations are safe, providing immediate pain relief while facilitating the body’s natural healing process. Chiropractic care for neck pain can:

  • Reduce discomfort, pain, and swelling
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Improve range of motion
  • Increase flexibility
  • Increase muscle strength and tone

Causes of Neck Pain

The soft tissues around the neck must work all day against the downward pull of gravity. Poor posture causes stress that extends into the upper back and arms. Car accidents generally cause whiplash, which results in neck pain and stiffness. If not cared for, the body can deteriorate with age, leading to joint and muscle pain. Disorders like spinal stenosis, herniated discs, and facet disease can directly affect the spine.
