Once the information is collected (from us and other doctors) and our examinations are performed, the Millar Chiropractic Doctor will give you a detailed report of all your findings and sit down and answer any questions you might have including:
After reviewing your health history, goals, and examining your spine and X-rays, your Millar Chiropractor will discuss recommendations and notify you if your condition requires care with other providers. Our Doctors will design a custom program that will provide in our opinion the best treatment and wellness program for your needs. Should you desire us to, we will gladly contact your primary care physician by letter or phone to make him or her aware of our exam, findings and treatment plan. We like to work with your physician creating a team approach to your health.
It is now that you and the Millar Chiropractic Doctor will decide what outcome goals are with in reach in what time frame. Since Pain is not a good indicator of progress we will look for some other outcome measure such as increased function, range of motion, muscle strength, decreased orthopedic or neurological findings, what ever the case both will have a clear understanding of our goal and timeline.
At the conclusion of your Report of Findings, you can choose to experience your first treatment. We often start with a "test adjustment" to see how your body responds to Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy (CMT). This most likely will include some combination of spinal adjustments (manual and/or instrument); manual therapy; physiotherapy modalities (e-stim, heat, ice ultra sound, diathermy, cold laser treatment and paraffin bath); DTS Decompression Traction; soft tissue treatment; and/or massage. All of our Doctors of Chiropractic use multiple adjusting techniques such as Activator, ART, Drop Technique, Diversified, and SOT just to name a few. No one technique can solve every patient problem. We like to say our Doctors have many adjusting tools in their toolbox. Then they can pick the one that most fits the patient and the patient's problem.
Treatment is interactive, so you can express concerns about the different styles of treatment anytime. We need your input as you live in your body for 24 hours a day and we only see you for a short time on each visit. We often ask patients to record a log of their pain and symptoms while they are under treatment. In most cases, prior to leaving the office, the doctor will suggest a home treatment program. If you are in pain when you first come into our office this may include: ice or heat application instructions, certain activities or positions to avoid, and at home exercises and/or stretches.
If you desire, our wellness team will work with you also to create healthy habits and routines for your lifestyle. We define wellbeing as living longer younger. What we want to do is help you design a program to live healthier and live longer. Every person is unique, therefore everyone requires a customized wellness plan. The goal of our wellbeing program is for you to achieve good spinal alignment, have a healthy diet, do age and body appropriate exercise and activity, enjoy rest and sleep, and maintain a positive mental state. We use the acronym DREAM. Where DREAM stands for Diet, Rest, Exercise, Adjustments and Mental State.
Wellness Maintenance Program
You've all heard that if you start Chiropractic care you will need to go for the rest of your life. We have a simple question for you... Do you go to the Dentist for your lifetime? Do you go to have your eyes checked for your lifetime? Do you go to the medical doctor for your lifetime? The answer to these is of course YES you do and so do we. Once your finished with this round of Chiropractic care then you may not need us for a year or two or maybe longer. But we suggest every year or so you get rechecked just like you go to the dentist or have your eyes checked. Now all that being said some conditions may require continuing care to maintain and not progress. The same for some medical conditions or dental conditions. If you have one of those then you will be seeing us more often. Simple answer.
